COUNCIL ELECTION NEWS

On 26 March, the Institute of Translation and Interpreting announced the results of the elections to ITI Council 2010/2011.

Under the Institute’s Articles of Association and Bylaws, the Council for 2010/11 will comprise:

  • five qualified members
  • a non-qualified member
  • any individual elected by corporate members
  • the General Secretary (appointed by the Council)
  • the Treasurer (appointed by the Council)

The Chairman of the Institute will be a member of the Council other than the treasurer or general secretary. The President, and the Chairman must retire each year; any Council member appointed by Council and one third of the remaining elected members must retire. The Scottish Network is very proud to announce that, as of 1 May 2010, two of its members, Iwan and Jonathan, will be part of the ITI Council. This year, the following people will be members of ITI Council, after having been elected unopposed:

Jonathan Downie - Associate Member
Iwan Davies - Qualified Member
Udo Jorg - Qualified Member
Nick Rosenthal - Qualified Member

John Graham will remain on Council as a Qualified Member. Pamela Mayorcas will remain on Council as a Qualified Member and was nominated as Chairman of the Institute for the next 12 months.
No nominations were received for Corporate member or for the post of President. A replacement for Alan Wheatley, the Institute’s General Secretary for almost eight years, is being sought.
The next edition of the ITI bulletin will feature further information of the new members of Council but, if you can’t wait that long, watch this space for a recent interview to Iwan Davies.

From here, we’d like to congratulate Iwan and Jonathan, and wish them a very fruitful term in office.
