ITI Scottish Network has elected a new Convenor at its AGM held in Glasgow on 6 December 2008. Outgoing Convenor, Renate FitzRoy, had already announced at the 2007 AGM that 2008 would be her final year in charge, and that she did not intend to stand for re-election when the year was up. Having been approached by Renate as a potential successor, Hugh was pleased to have his name put forward to the AGM, and was elected unopposed to lead the Scottish Network out of the noughties!
All those present at the AGM thanked Renate for her work as Convenor with a very warm round of applause, and a small token of the Network’s appreciation for all her efforts was presented by Treasurer, Norma Tait. Renate has accomplished a great deal with the Network in the three years in which she has been its Convenor, helping to organize the three main summer events at St. Andrews, Aviemore and Oban, and bringing the Scottish Network to the attention of a wider audience through her participation as a translator at the StAnza International Poetry Festival and Edinburgh Book Fair. She has also been the voice of the Network within ITI as whole, attending various ITI meetings, events and conferences.
Hugh Fraser is a German & Russian to English translator, based in Edinburgh. A native of Invernesshire, Hugh previously worked at a translation company in Germany before returning to the UK to become freelance. He and his wife Sally are expecting their first child in early 2009 and Hugh is looking forward to adding a specialization in nappies and child-rearing to his existing portfolio! Hugh can be contacted via the Convenor e-mail address, .
