The ITI Translation Workshop provides an opportunity to meet in different language groups and translate texts in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.  As well as practising your own translation skills, you will be able to learn by sharing ideas with other translators.  There will be opportunities to quiz source language speakers, and a general plenary discussion session. There will also be plenty of networking opportunities during the lunch and refreshment breaks.

Languages: The workshop languages will depend on demand. They will probably include English, French, German, Italian and Spanish; but groups can be created for any language pair requested by at least two people.

Topic: This year our theme is ‘The Retail Revolution’, inspired by the fact that Milton Keynes is said to be a town built around a shopping centre. The retail landscape has altered radically in recent years, throwing up all sorts of challenges for translators. Today almost all countries have Internet shopping thriving alongside farmers’ markets. Has Amazon damaged or enriched the bookselling scene? These are the sort of topics our texts will cover. We will offer four basic text types (serious, popular, technical and captions). You do not need any specialist knowledge of retail to take part.
